As you know, I don't normally write this type of post.
as a marketeer and as a seasoned market shopper, I felt there definitely was a need for this info.
I have noticed their are a few inherent things that many shoppers don't think to bring with them.
this is totally normal.
You are just excited to hit the stalls.
You have enough to worry about with packing the kids in the car,
finding your keys, phone and bag,
and even finding the time to go with the busy lifestyle you may lead.
to make your market shopping experience far more pleasant and definitely much easier,
here is a list of things I thought you may need.
If I have not included something, please let me know in the comments below.
1] Take small cash with you e.g. twenties, tens and fives.
Stall holders carry a good amount of change,
it doesn't take long for them to have pretty much zero, when they receive a
fifty from every shopper.
2] Definitely take zippered, reusable and waterproof bags with you.
I am not sure about other markets,
but mine does not support plastic bags as they are not eco friendly.
Most of us pack our items in brown paper bags and paper, but it doesn't take long before you
have a bundle of these in your arms and you are struggling to grab a coffee and hold it.
I say waterproof as well, because if it starts to drizzle, you will have soggy parcels.
3] Wear comfortable, worn in shoes.
The last thing you need is blisters or tired, sore feet.
4] Check what the temperature will be for the day, as you don't want to go home sunburnt.
Pack a hat, sunscreen and dress in layers.
If it's cooler, leave a coat in the car.
and, if it's going to rain, definitely pack an umbrella.
5] Carry a collapsible water bottle for those hot days
6] Pack a foldable trolley if you are going to be doing a lot of shopping, or if you don't have the
7] If you plan on taking your dog, please ensure you ring ahead and see if they allow this.
Take water, a collapsible water bowl and poop bags.
Keep your fur baby on a leash at all times and make sure s/he is vaccinated.
8] If you take a phone, make sure it is fully charged.
I usually just take a walkie talkie.
9] Sometimes, markets have to cancel if the weather doesn't permit.
To keep up-to-date with changes, it's handy to 'follow' the market's page on Facebook.
10] Pack a torch, tape measure and torch if you are buying items for your home.
The last thing you want is for that new side table to not next to your bed.
Plus, you want to be to fit it in your car.
If it is larger, check that it can be disassembled. Many stallholders have a van, so what might fit
in there, won't fit your hatchback.
Okay my friends, I think that's it.
As I said earlier, if you have any other things you have found to be useful to you when you go market shopping, add them to the comments below!
